Rush, Al, and the Magic
By JBC | May 25, 2007
I have to admit, it is one of the funniest things I have heard in awhile.
There is a furor over the parody song, “Barak, the Magic Negro”, which has been played to millions by Rush Limbaugh on his radio program. There is a push by some to make him the new Imus. However, there is quite a bit of difference between Rush and Mr. Imus, and quite a bit of difference between those who have been parodied. Mr. Limbaugh appeals to quite a few more listeners than Mr. Imus, thus making him a much larger mainstream target. He will not so easily go into the night…remember the prescription drugs scandal? He is still standing.
Secondly, the song, written and performed by Paul Shanklin, a regular contributer of parodies to Rush’s program, parodies two very well known and public figures, Barak Obama and Al Sharpton. They are, or should be, free targets of public scrutiny, and ridicule if necessary. They are not a collegiate women’s basketball team. Rush is in no danger, so feel free to laugh at Mr. Shanklin’s masterpiece. The bullhorn effect of Mr. Sharpton’s voice is particularly effective.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the idea of the “Magic Negro” is not Limbaugh’s creation. In fact, the idea that Barak Obama is the wet dream of the white apologist/interloper comes from a very liberal source, David Ehrenstein, a hack reporter from a liberal fish-wrapper known as the LA Times.
PS - In defence of Mr. Imus, he should still be on the radio…free speech is exactly that. He endangered nobody’s life, and uttered the phraseology utilized by illiterate two-bit no-talent rap artists on a daily basis. The most horrible mistake made by the I-man was groveling before the great race-baiter himself. Maybe Imus got what he deserved after all.

It is so very Christian and Christ-like of Mr. Limbaugh to have such a song played on his show. This type of masking of good intentions behind the “God” or “Christ” name is what keeps this country down. Wasn’t is Christ who said “turn the other cheek”, then why all the good Christians who are for the war in Iraq? What would Jesus do? I dont think he would have our country go and kill people for oil!!!!! That is why we are there no matter what any politician says and the entire country knows that is why there will not be a republican president for a long while!!! And that song, and the fact that Limbaugh plays it on his show just shows how full of hate and un-Godly like character most ultra-conservatives are!!

Sarah, it may very well be the antithesis of “Christ-like” to play the “Magic Negro” song on broadcast radio. However, I do not think it will harm any Republican candidates. The idea of the “Magic Negro” came from a very liberal source. The idea is that, in liberal political eyes, Mr. Obama is a safe candidate for the general election. To conservatives, Barak could look like Howdy Doody, with red hair, freckles, and porcelain skin…he is still a very left-wing candidate. Mr. Limbaugh was just making fun of the liberals and their belief that they have found a “safe” black candidate. The racism seems to exist on the left, and not the right. That being said, I could care less if a GOP candidate (other than Ron Paul) was ever elected…as long as a Democratic candidate was banned from office as well. They are truly two sides of a very evil and incompetent coin.
