Gaynell v. Gay

By JBC | August 15, 2006

mescotI’m not sure what to make of the Patricia Todd story in Alabama. Patricia Todd, an openly gay white woman, narrowly defeated her black opponent in the Democratic Primary for State House District 54. State party leaders are having a hearing today to determine whether or not, and to what extent, she should be punished for allegedly delaying financial disclosure of contributions from a “power pink PAC” known as the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, thus denying information to the public.

However, what would at first appear to be gay-bashing by the Democratic Party, may actually be old fashioned racism. The chairman of the Black Democratic Caucus of Alabama, and a lifelong knucklehead, Joe Reed, openly begged black voters in the majority black 54th to support the black candidate, Gaynell (given the sexual orientation of his opponent, that’s funny - and I don’t care what color you are) Hendricks. Is it sexual orientation? Is it color? Or is it plain ole stupid? I’d vote for the latter, but I’m sure that the decision would be brought up before a sub-committee.
