Hey Pedro, This Ain’t California

By JBC | August 7, 2006

mescotThe Great State of Alabama has enthusiasticly utilized a unique federal program which trains Highway Patrol officers to more effectively identify and arrest illegal aliens. Of course, I never thought it was that difficult to spot late model low-riders stuffed with 37 male passengers, covered in bumper stickers that read “We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Green Cards”. Nonetheless, the State hopes to brings its total of trained Border Troopers to 70 by the end of this year.

Under this program, the Office of US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement pays for training the State Troopers, while the State picks up the cost of the salaries. The program is not without its detractors, and more than a couple of groups have expressed concern that the State will be engaged in racial profiling on Alabama’s highways. In “off the record” comments by Alabama Troopers Bubba Bryant and Bobby Lee Wallace, we were assured that they have never engaged in such activity, and have sworn to pull over any white or black folks that have any physical similarities to Cheech and/or Chong.

While Washington DC turns a blind eye to our porous borders or attempts to shift the responsibility to others, the government in little Montgomery is doing all she can to stem the tide of Vicente’s invasion.

PS - Still love ya honey. Hurry home!
