The Silent Majority

By JBC | March 12, 2006

mescotSouth Dakota has passed a law banning abortion. Mississippi and other conservative states are moving quickly to follow suit. It seems that, Supreme Court willing or not, cultural conservatives are flexing their muscles in the “Bible Belt” states and beyond. This should be reason for much Republican chest pounding and finger pointing, right? Well, apparently not, as top GOP leaders remain mum and evasive on the subject. Why have Republicans gone silent at this very important juncture in the fight for life?

It is very easy to explain. Republicans are just members of another political party wishing to remain in power. They like to press issues vehemently and passionately ONLY when they have no hope of becoming law. As we approach the actual battle front, the cowards are showing their colors. It is obvious that most members of the Republican leadership can talk the talk during the pre-battle strategic planning sessions, but are now running with soiled pants as the first shots are fired. Few GOP leaders, Senator Brownback and a few others excepted, are willing to speak out on the subject personally.

This is an interesting study which proves that those we elect are rarely the leaders on any issues of import. Real change is driven by the efforts of Joe and Jane Picket-Fence. Politicians are only willing to jump on the train once it is in full motion and the work has been completed. I’d like to send a personal “thank you” to those brave citizens and their representatives in South Dakota. You have shown the rest of America the reason that this country was founded as a federal government with local state power. Hopefully, many more conservatives in many other States will follow your lead. I have no doubt that our elected “leaders” will start listening as soon as change seems imminent.
