Here Comes the Judge

Judge Roy Moore has made plans to move into the Alabama Governor’s mansion in 2006. I have to admit that this is the most exciting political news I’ve heard in years. Forget all of the talk about Supreme Court nominations, for we know that the Constitution has been turned upon its head for so long that it will take years to repair the damage. Not only that, but it can all be undone yet again with the untimely passing of one of the “good guys”. Forget Bush’s victories in 2000 and 2004. Could we really be in any worse shape, fiscally or legally, than we are right now? This most recent news from the Heart of Dixie is much more exciting!
This one election will place a true conservative Christian, with an axe to grind against the federal government, in charge of one of the 50 separate true wielders of constitutional power. It will be interesting to see high noon showdowns between the white-hatted Moore and the feds. It will only be a matter of time before somebody has to blink regarding prayer in schools or one of any number of issues regarding the invisible wall separating Church and state. That alone is worth the price of a vote for Judge Moore.
Do I trust Roy Moore implicitly? No, I think there is always a tendency of people in powerful positions to do whatever is necessary to remain in power. Look at Shrub. Admittedly, he was a moderate back in 2000, but given his performance over the last five years he might as well be sleeping opposite Hillary. But this is the real deal. This may actually force a “George Wallace in the schoolhouse door”-type face off between federal and state authorities. It may sound slightly obscene, but one phrase comes to mind: Give ‘em hell, Judge!
