British Elections - A Peek into America’s Future?

By JBC | May 4, 2005

mescotOn the morrow English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish voters will go to the polls to form the next British government. If polls are any indication, and they usually are, Tony Blair will continue to be GWB’s best friend (well, maybe next to Vicente Fox) among world leaders. It is hard to imagine that the British voters will throw Ole Tone out, even though they clearly reject his great desire to give away British sovereignty, and even though they have grown quite weary of his support for America’s Wilsonian approach to world affairs. There is just no alternative.

The torch-bearer for the Tories is Michael Howard. I can hear the crickets. I don’t blame Americans for not recognizing him. Most Brits have a hard time recognizing him. Even more importantly, and this is my primary point, Hans Blix would have an easier time finding WMDs in Iraq than finding one major point of difference between these two socialists. Additionally there is some character named Kennedy in charge of a group called the Liberal Democrats. They don’t really believe in anything. They are searching for a middle ground. Good luck Mr. Kennedy.

When Mr. Howard (once again - he’s the nondescript leader of the so-called Conservative Party) tried to say that he had a MINUTELY more conservative approach to British policy on abortion, the media went into a frenzy. There were claims that Britain was in danger of having an American-style election…meaning one that has, at least on its face, candidates with different political positions. They acted as if they were afraid of great civil unrest on the Mother Island. They are only afraid of freedom.

Is America headed down the same road? Can conservatives really be afraid of confronting the decay of our sovereignty at the borders? Can anybody stand up against corporate “outsourcing”? Is there a lack of a real alternative to our Wilsonian foreign policy? Are we searching for our own Michael Howard, or have we found him in George Bush II?

I’ll sum it up for you. The Labour and Conservative Party leaders are Kang and Kodos (alien invaders on The Simpsons). Oh yeah, I forgot the other guy - Kang, Kodos and Kennedy. Who will win tomorrow? It doesn’t really matter, but my money is on Kodos.
