Terri Schiavo

By JBC | March 27, 2005

mescotThe sad and sometimes lurid tale of the battle over Terri Schiavo’s fate has reached a political climax. With the decision of the Florida Supreme Court, the parents have finally asked all of the supporters of political intervention on Terri’s behalf to go home.

Although it is sad to see this young lady’s life ended in such a fashion, was there any recourse? It is my belief that the federal courts and the President of the United States had no business becoming involved in this decision. This is clearly a decision that should have been left to the family and the State of Florida. Even if you believe that liberals (and what’s new) have behaved badly and have crusaded for her death, you should not suffer the President and Congress blurring these less and less distinct lines of political sovereignty.

On this Easter Sunday we should take inventory of all of the blessings our Lord has bestowed upon us. We should also pray that our governments and leaders are privy to a higher wisdom. Have a Blessed Easter.
